The Top 8 Things I Learned After My Freshman Year of College

1. Despite all the internships, research projects, study abroad trips, etc. most people don't really know what they are going to do in the future when they are 18 or 19 years old. So it's okay if don't have everything completely figured out.

2. People deserve a second chance. But they do not deserve a third.

3. People cannot be divided up as 'good' or 'bad'; some people just carry around a lot of baggage, which makes them act the way they do. They may have more emotional scars but that does not necessarily make them bad people.

4. College academics are not always fair. Intellect paired with a sub-par work ethic can triumph hard work alone.

5. College relationships:

  • The casual hookup
  • Friends with benefits
  • The married couple
  • The on-again off-again couple
  • The non-exclusive 'couple'
  • The normal couple (~1% of population)

6. Avoid having the "If only I knew then what I knew now" mentality. If you knew everything then you wouldn't learn anything new to grow as an individual.

7. Time management = Key

8. Sometimes the best thing you can do in a difficult situation is to not care so much about it and move on.
